NTPC Bhilai 15 MW floating solar power station now fully operational

The plant reached full operational capacity following the commissioning of its final 5 MW unit on 24 June 2026.

NTPC Limited has declared the commercial operation of the final 5 MW module of the Bhilai Floating Solar Power Station, completing the entire 15 MW project. The plant reached full operational capacity following the commissioning of its final 5 MW unit on 24 June 2026.

The project has been developed by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL), the joint venture between NTPC Limited and the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). This further strengthens the role of floating solar in India’s evolving renewable energy portfolio.

The final phase of the Bhilai Floating Solar Power Station, designated as Island-2, consists of two generating units of 2.5 MW each. With the successful commencement of commercial operations for this segment, the entire 15 MW floating solar installation has become fully operational. The commissioning further strengthens NTPC Group’s generation portfolio, taking its total installed capacity to 90,904 MW and its commercial capacity to 89,824 MW.
