The initiative is expected to help Delhi move towards becoming the country’s Solar Capital with 2.30 lakh families getting rooftop solar panels free of cost.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a portal under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which will allow residents to register for rooftop solar installations, access information on subsidies and authorised vendors and raise complaints. The registrations opened on Monday and are set to be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Centre is to provide a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW, while the Delhi Government has decided to provide an equal subsidy of ₹78,000. Domestic consumers with average monthly consumption of up to 400 units will be eligible for rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW without any payment.
The scheme will also cover common areas and open spaces of group housing societies, with the Delhi Government increasing the subsidy for such installations from ₹2,000 per kW ₹11,000 per kW.
For households with limited rooftop space, systems of up to 2 kW will be encouraged, with the government setting a target that 50 per cent of consumers install smaller systems.
The government has set a target of installing free rooftop solar systems at 2.30 lakh homes in the first phase.
The initiative is expected to help Delhi move towards becoming the country’s Solar Capital with 2.30 lakh families getting rooftop solar panels free of cost. The rooftop solar expansion was aimed not only at promoting clean energy but also at reducing household electricity expenses and moving Delhi towards a green and self-sustaining economy.
