Noida Authority to install 1,200 solar-powered streetlights

By September 8, 2026 2:54 pm IST

2.4 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will also be installed along with the solar lights.

The Noida Authority has approved a project that sets up the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway for a major lighting upgrade. The project aims to install 1,200 solar-powered streetlights, including a 2.4 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), allowing the lights along the corridor to continue operating even when grid power is unavailable.

The 2.4MW BESS keeps the lights running with no need for the grid power to be restored before the lights come back on. This will eliminate outage-related dark stretches along the corridor. The project will raise lux levels along the expressway, which will increase brightness on the road and make illumination consistent.

The Noida Expressway, formally the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, is a six-lane, 24.53-kilometre stretch running from the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. It passes through several developed residential and commercial sectors, making it one of the busier corridors in the region.

The lighting will be done by Tata Projects. The agency has already put in more than 76,000 LED streetlights across Noida under a broader smart-lighting programme.
