KPI Green Energy to develop floating solar project in Gujarat
By Staff Report September 11, 2026 11:39 am IST
The project is situated at the Kadana Dam reservoir in the Mahisagar district of Gujarat. Its capacity is rated at 110 MW AC and is expected to provide substantial clean energy output to the state grid once commissioned.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for a significant 110 MW AC (142 MW DC) floating solar project situated at the Kadana Dam reservoir in the Mahisagar district of Gujarat.
The project is being developed by KPI Green Energy limited; who received the order in December 2025 from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. This project marks KP Group’s entry into large-scale floating solar technology.
KPI Green Energy will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering, procurement, and construction of the facility. The project’s capacity, rated at 110 MW AC, is expected to provide substantial clean energy output to the state grid once commissioned.
For EPC contractors and developers, these projects signify a shift toward specialised solar applications and geographical diversification. The industry will closely monitor the construction phase of the Kadana Dam floating solar plant, as it showcases the niche technical requirements for floating solar, particularly the challenges associated with anchoring and floating module maintenance in a reservoir environment.
This initiative is part of the broader effort by GSECL to leverage water bodies for sustainable power generation, reducing land acquisition hurdles while simultaneously minimising water evaporation.
